Change tracking

This scenario is about tracking changes, very useful in a collaborative environment where different users are reviewing and changing (parts of) the document.

Disclaimer: You are free to reuse it “as-is”, on your own responsibility and without any guarantee whatsoever. No rights can be derived from, successfully or unsuccessfully, completing the steps outlined below.

Steps

New document:

  1. Create a new document
  2. Disable change tracking
  3. Add a (level 1) numbered header “1 Hello changes”
  4. Add a paragraph with the text “This is a very basic test” in 12pt Arial, black
  5. Add a (level 1) numbered header “2 Bye changes”
  6. Add a (level 1) numbered header “3 Sitting here”
  7. Save and close the document

Apply changes:

  1. Reopen the document
  2. Enable change tracking
  3. Add a new (level 2) numbered header “1.1 Intro” between the 1st header and the paragraph
  4. Change the word “very” in the paragraph to 20pt Courier, red
  5. Remove the header “2 Bye changes”
  6. Save and close the document as [changes.odt]

Check:

  1. Save and reopen the document
  2. Check if the changes are recorded
  3. Check if the final documents looks ok (numbering etc)

If the implementation does not support change tracking:

  1. Save to another file without changing anything
  2. Open it with an implementation supporting change tracking
  3. Check if previous changes are still present
